Couminole bound

After a hearty breakfast at Laburnum Lodge in Tullow we hit the M7 on a fast track to Carlow, Limerick, through Tralee to Dingle. By now it is raining and freezing to boot! At Dingle we have a late lunch at Murphy's Pub opposite the dock (a huge roast, stuffed pork meal for 9.95 euro, about AU $14). From Dingle we make our way around the dodgy, narrow, winding Slea Head Drive - between the choppy Atlantic to our left and the sheep-dotted slopes of Mt. Eagle to the right. At last Dunquin and our Couminole Cottage draws into view. The cottage at Couminole sits right on the road, amidst stone ruins of other former, pre-famine cottages and the occasional bee-hive hut. Great Blasket Island, with its white-washed cottages (finally abandoned in 1953) looms in the distance. Our home for the week is as rustic and cosy as we thought it would be. Tonight we toddle the 12miles back into Dingle for some traditional music (it is Saturday night after all!) Alas it is rainy and bitterly cold and we decide to opt instead for the warmth of a peat fire!! The fog has rolled in and visibility is poor. For the ride back to the cottage, along the narrow road, we take our lives in our hands!
